SUPERVISOR LISA BARTLETT DISCUSSES SENIOR FOOD INSECURITY WITH LAGUNA FOOD PANTRY

Laguna Beach, CA (July 30, 2019) – Orange County Board of Supervisors Chairman Lisa Bartlett visited Laguna Food Pantry with representatives of Laguna Woods Village, Susan McInerney and Brian Gruener. Supervisor Bartlett, Fifth District, is concerned with Orange County seniors facing food insecurity.

“Many seniors live on fixed incomes and face rising medical costs. They are often forced to choose between food and other necessities,” said Anne Belyea, Executive Director of the Laguna Food Pantry. “The Pantry is vital to our shoppers who bring home fresh eggs, milk, fruits, and vegetables weekly.”

Supervisor Bartlett’s visit was part of an ongoing effort to encourage organizations such as Laguna Food Pantry to collaborate with other organizations serving seniors.

“Laguna Food Pantry has been working on an initiative to determine why so few seniors in need shop for free groceries,” Belyea said. Discussions with Laguna Beach Seniors, the Susi Q Center, Sally’s Fund, and Laguna Woods Village have been ongoing to find new ways to reach more seniors.

“The Laguna Food Pantry Board believes no one should go hungry,” said Susan Thomas, Board Chair of the Laguna Food Pantry. “We champion the worth and dignity of all people and treat everyone as valued members of the community.”
